Dear Dance Core families
Saturday, June 12th, 2010
Today is one of the hardest days of the past four years for Kelsey and myself, and there have been many. I regretfully inform you that we are closing Dance Core.
I cannot convey how truly sorry and saddened this decision has made us over the past few months. We were trying to keep Dance Core alive in a number of different ways and have only told a small handful of people in our search to keep our doors open. We never wanted to hide this from our families or staff but until this past Tuesday we were actively seeking different directions to move the business.
From the outset of our expansion three years ago this business was designed to be a partnership. That partner signed a five year agreement and left after merely five months. The lion share of the work was left to be done by Kelsey in every aspect at Dance Core. The fiscal blow caused us to lose our primary car and eventually our housing three years ago. We desperately wanted to make it work however, and put everything we had both monetarily and emotionally into Dance Core.
In the past six months it became very clear to us that Dance Core had fatal flaws in its history and business plan that would not allow us to continue forward. Those six months have been extremely emotionally taxing and we apologize if we ever gave you anything but our very best.
We were very young when we set out on this adventure, and I personally made a great deal of mistakes. However, I will not leave these last four years regretting my mistakes but rather focusing on my successes. To both Kelsey and myself, the students, families and the eight fantastic shows over four years are our greatest achievements.
We never desired to make this all about us, and that is why we chose not to say this at the show. For those of you who made it to the pot luck tonight we were blessed to have this discussion face to face.
For the future Kelsey will be returning to focused class room time and will be teaching at a new studio, Classic Dance Academy, at Peoria and Arapaho.
Please see our Dance Core facebook page as it will have contact and address info shortly.
I will be moving back into a field I previously worked, insurance, and be joining with Northwestern Mutual, a company I greatly admire and look forward to working with.
If you have any questions please feel free to email us, our website will remain up throughout the summer.
We love you and respect all of you. Although it could have gone on longer, the time we had was greatly cherished on our behalves, thank you.
Benjamin, Kelsey and Teagan MacLeay
